You may be thinking that Myspace is just a meeting place for “friends”. But in reality, it is much, much more. Just looking at the numbers available, the potential is unlimited. There are currently over 172,000,000 profiles in the Myspace community, a number that is growing by over 200,000 every day. Granted, many of those are duplicates from people who are trying to reach as many people as possible, but most are new individuals. Even if it was 50% of that number, it is still an enormous number of people to market to. Remember, most of marketing is a numbers game. Even a 1% or 2% response rate can add up to a lot of sales quickly.

Read the rest here

Greenenomics

With the coming and passing of St Patrick’s Day, and the recent increases in the price of gasoline, I thought it might be a good time talk about the economics of being green... in an energy using sort of way. Click here for more

Are All Thw Wheels Coming Off?

Scooter Libby…..Walter Reed…..Iraq…..Gas and Oil Prices…. Believing what they are shown on TV, the people have come to believe that the war is un-winnable and that we are stuck in a basic stalemate. How has the strongest military in the history of man become so bogged down with negativity?

From the beginning, the News Media have predominantly focused on U.S. casualties and have claimed that the Iraqi's themselves did not want us there. Rarely do we hear of any good or positive steps that our military are making there. And the people at home follow the news media lead and become disheartened with our efforts to stabilize the country there.

Then we hear complaints that the Iraqi's are not helping themselves, leading to cries that "if they aren't helping, then why are we there?" Saying that their army is incompetent and should not be taking this long to train. Nobody has taken the time to point out that their army, per capita, is roughly the size of ours. In 3 years.
- and training?
Our basic training takes 8 weeks. Then our soldiers have an additional 3 to 18 months or more of advanced traning just to become proficient privates. Officers have similar training to become Lieutenants. So approximately 2 years go into making entry level soldiers. Are we expecting an Iraqi army of privates and Lieutenants to be able to control the country and erradicate the terrorists? It's not necessarily that they don't have the will, It's that they don't have the leadership necessary. But you won't hear that in the press.
And so we listen like sheep and then lead our troops into harms way because we don't support their effort. Look at it logically and get all the facts, then form an oppinion.

World of Good Wednesday 4/5/06

I was thinking recently about forgiveness and how it is a choice that we all have in life. Everybody will have an incident or many incidents where they are wronged. While you have no choice in many things that happen to you because that choice is made by others, you do have a choice in what happens next. You could choose to hold anger and resentment towards the other party and carry that around with you for some time or forever, it's up to you. I want to offer you an alternative.

Try forgiveness!! Now, before you discount this as a weak mans way out, let me explain my premis completely. I argue that forgiveness comes from a position of strength. The weaker path is to hang on to the anger and resentment. You may say that it is too hard to truely forgive. I will show that it is far more stressful and difficult to harbor ill will. Some will think that to forgive makes you subservient to the individual who wronged you. I hold that by retaining your resentment and anger, you become a prisoner to it and a servant of it.

In fact, while it is hard to believe, forgiveness is the easy route. And the right route. Forgiving someone who has wronged you may take inner fortitude, and some determination, but once you have decided that route, the rest is easy. Just be honest with yourself, and give forgiveness without any strings attached. I said forgive....not forget. You can forgive someone but remember what they did and don't let them do it again.

The Fair Tax Book

Good Ole GeorgeI was thinking, the other day, about a friend of mine who passed away earlier this year. I didn't know him long enough, but long enough to know he was an interesting fellow. George was a Blue Tick Coon Hound who came into my life about 4 years ago. He was dropped on the side of the road by his former owners who evidently decided that since he had gotten sick (mostly through their negligence) he was no longer any good to them. They dropped him there and sped away. The people who found him saw that he spent a lot of time watching traffic, looking for that old pick up truck to come back and get him. They never would. Lucky for George. God must have been looking out for George that day because he didn't let him get hit by the passing traffic like so may do. Instead, a lady who lived nearby decided to help him out. She called a friend of mine who went and picked him up and took him home. He was thin(42 lbs when we got him a week later) and weak and malnourished. My friend was unable to keep George so he ended up at my house. The Vet thought he wouldn't last more than 2 months. I had him over 4 years. George quickly became the Grandfather to the dogs I already had. He was always excited to see me when I came home and had a humorous way about him. He always wanted his own space, but had no problem squeezing between two other dogs to get his piece of the dog pillow. He was a special creature that would find his way into anyones heart.

World of Good Wednesday 3/15/06

Brave teen leaves sick bed to help charity...

A TEENAGER who is bravely fighting an aggressive form of cancer has left his sick bed to help a struggling charity. Jeff Vipond is being cared for at the Sick Kids Hospital after doctors discovered a tumour growing near his stomach. The diagnosis was the latest setback for the plucky 15-year-old who was successfully treated for a brain tumour four years ago.

During his treatment, Jeff and his family have been supported by the Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP). After Jeff discovered CCLASP could close its doors within months, the youngster decided to organise a sponsored walk through Holyrood Park. The event was dubbed Jeff's Green Jaunt after the football fan, who normally uses a wheelchair, ensured his friends and family were all wearing Hibs strips before embarking on the walk.

"It was all Jeff's idea," said his mother Molly Vipond, 36, a cleaner from Wester Drylaw Drive. "He wanted to put something back into a service that was vital to us.

World of Good Wednesday 3/8/06

A bank in Camden, Delaware is helping first time home buyers get their first home. It's called the First Front Door Program.

"Many people dream about owning their first home. Now the Federal Home Bank of Pittsburgh is helping to make that dream a reality for Delawareans.
"It's basically a down payment, closing cost assistance program for first time homebuyers," said David Buches.
All they're asking is that the first time homebuyer go to at least four hours of credit counseling.
"If there are some credit issues, if there are some things or questions you have about the process, if you need help or even how to look for a home...There's a lot of things you can provide that will really put you way ahead," said Mike Skipper.
Then if you qualify, the First Front Door program could give up to five thousand dollars.
"If you are looking to buy a house and you have only a thousand dollars cash that you have available or to put down for a final cost, then the Federal Home Loan Bank program would match by giving three thousand dollars toward that. I'll explain at the bottom.

Md. Girl's Haircut Goes Toward Good Cause

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- A Maryland 8-year-old will join an NBC News journalist in donating something very dear -- her hair.
"Today" show news anchor Ann Curry has recently sported longer hair for a good cause. Curry and Owings Mills third-grader Melanie Weiskopf will join hundreds of others in donating their hair on Wednesday to the Locks of Love Campaign, benefiting children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Read the rest of the story here...

Personally, this story reminded me of the deal my brother and neice had made and told me about when I visited them after Christmas. She is 9 and wants to get her ears peirced. My brother didn't want her to do that until she was 13. So they came to an agreement, if she would let her hair grow long enough to donate to Locks of Love, then she could get them peirced. I'm not sure how much longer she needs to grow it, but I thought it was a great cause at the time and this article reminded me of it, so I'll call him today and see what the progress is.

Just Me

Laughter Has no Accent

I was at the Mexican restaurant the other day when at the table next to me, someone told a joke. I have no idea what they said, I don't speak Spanish and understand very little, They could have been talking about me for all I know, but the laughter I understood completely. And it sounded just like any American laughter. So that got me thinking, laughter is a universal language. And it has no accent. A laugh is a laugh is a laugh. I never heard anyone making fun of New Yorkers laughing. If all they did was laugh, you'd never know where they were from. And everyone can recognize a laugh as a laugh. It may be mistaken as crying if tears are included, but that is usually cleared up in a very short time. There are many different styles of laughter: the chortle, the Belly Laugh, the Giggle, The simple haha. When you hear them, they need no interpretation. Everyone laughs----------eventually, and it breaks all language barriers. It seems that some people have forgotten that. They are miserable because they take things too seriously. And want to make everyone else suffer with them. Laughter begins with the ability to laugh at yourself. If you can't see the humor in your own actions, You'll never see the humor in the rest of life. Come on, join the rest of the world and laugh. You'll feel better and see things a whole lot differently. And everyone will understand you.

Don't take Life too seriously,
It's a temporary condition.

Crusher

Monday Morning Quarterback

This is where I will post my first thoughts of the week, not necessarily relating to football, just stuff I think of on my way to work on Monday.

Age Experienced? I'm beginning to think it must be that their checkbook still has enough money to pay the fee! This morning, within 2 minutes, there were two troubling incidents. The first, approaching a stop light, this bluehaired lady in a 30 year old sedan blowing smoke as blue as her hair decided the one care in front of her was going to be too slow leaving the light so she swerved into the left lane infront of me and promptly came to a stop. A full 200 feet before the light! Then put on her let turn signal. I figured she meant to be in the left turn lane and would move over there once the light changed. Wrong!!!! The light changed and 10 seconds later ( I counted) she started her dash up the road, 10 mph...........Then 15...........Then 20...........Then 25. She maxed out at 40. Yes, still in the left lane. Still in front of me as everybody behind me was passing on the right. When I finally passed, she decided it was time for her to be in the right lane. I swerved and accelerated just in time to not be jettisoned into the ditch. And sped away at a blazing 55. The posted speed limit. Just as my heart settled from that, the next stop light would bring even more treachery. As the light changed green, I moved to the let lane so I could pass the previously stopped traffic as they accelerated. As I pass a large maintenance vehicle, I catch out o the corner of my eye a small subcompact(could have been a Ford Festiva) move infront of the truck from the crossroad yield ramp. There was plenty of room in the acceleration lane, but I guess the driver didn't know how to use it. The truck had to lock its brakes in order to avoid creaming the little car. As I pass and look at the driver, I see 2 coke bottle glasses angled at 45 degrees so he can see over the steering wheel. Behind the glasses was this tiny old man with a perfect open casket expression on his face. I'm sure he never saw or heard the truck. I thought there was a vision test to keep your license. Who knew? Makes you feel real safe on the road. I'd fly if I could.

Have a Good Week

The Evil Snooze Button

Who ever invented the snooze button on Alarm clocks had nothing but evil in mind. Why give people an excuse not to get out of bed when the alarm goes off?

I mean, this is a typical day: I have the alarm set for 30 minutes earlier than I plan on getting up. Then when the alarm goes off, I swing my arm and smash "The Button", roll over and doze off. Nine minutes later, just as I start to fall asleep again---Bleep--Bleep---Bleep, That damn alarm again. Quickly do the math in my head and make a fist and slam, roll over and start to doze off. Nine minutes later,I grimace, cause I know it's coming:---Bleep---Bleep---Bleep, The math goes faster this time, and slam---missed so I have to roll over and look at where I'm aiming and gently push the button again. Check my math again and roll over in the comfort of knowing that I still have time. Nine minutes, and this time the Bulldogs are yelling at me to shut that thing off. Slam again and yell "Knock it Off!!!" roll over and start to dream, about work, thinking I'm already there. And when the sun starts to hit me in the eye, I look up, then focus on the clock. Damn, 35 minutes late. As I jump up in a panic, I think "Damn Clock" and mumble about how I need a new Alarm Clock as I get going for the morning.

How a Blog Gets It's Name

the full Crush is dedicated to the memory of Media Crush(Crusher)
Crusher was my best friend. He and I met first in March, around the 15th. He was such a tall, handsome horse, I knew right away that we would be great friends. I was a very green rider back then, but he didn't seem to mind. He was glad to have someone give him attention. I finally adopted him from Horse Lovers United and he arrived at my stables (Secret Pride Stables) on April 1st. I was able to take riding lessons on Crusher and Learned how to work with him and communicate with him. After a couple weeks, We were getting along great and he showed me how graceful he was. You see he was a Standerdbred, former pacer harness racer. When he was walking, he was a little clutsy and would bounce some and even trip over his own feet sometimes. The last couple times I was able to ride him, he showed me what it was like to ride on a cloud. He would trot when I asked and when he trotted, going faster and faster, you felt like you were sitting still he was so smooth. Unfortunately, I only was able to ride him a couple times. In May, when the ferriar came to trim his hooves, he noticed that Crusher seemed to have a big problem. I had my vet out immediately to check him and he said he thought he had EPM. I didn't know what that was at the time but I had to take him to the Equine clinic for treatment. He was there a few days and then I took him back to secret pride. I was continuing to treat him and took him back for a check up on the next thursday. He seemed to be getting better but when I walked him on Saturday, he fell and got back up. Then, on Sunday, Jacinda, The Stable manager, called me and told me that Crusher was down and could not get up. I rushed to the stables and found him down in the stall with Jacinda's friend Holly staying with him and petting him. She was being very kind to my horse and trying to make him feel better. I tried everything I could think of, and could not get in contact with a Vet as it was Memorial day weekend. Finally, when Dr Rayne did come over, he told me that even if we could get him up, he would never be rideable again and would be prone to going down again. I had to make the heartwrenching decision to put my bestfriend down. Just so you know, this ended an incredible heartbreaking week where It started with one of my dogs dying, then my wife telling me that she wanted a divorce and now this. It still brings me to tears to think about it. In the time since then, I have been thinking of ways to memorialize him. This is one. Also in the meantime, My divorce has been finalized (at least in the courts) I had another horse get struck by lightning and die. Funny how life can keep throwing curveballs. All you can do is keep swinging and hope to do a base hit or better.
